Background

Medical care is planned, designed, and delivered. In short: it is managed. Managing Medicine means balancing the needs of patients and the population with the requirements of service delivery, the dynamics and the progress of medicine in the context of a rapidly changing health care system.

A profound understanding of the possibilities and the limits of management and its tools is essential for today’s leaders in medicine. This is a prerequisite for successful development and implementation of strategies and it is of outstanding importance in view of the rising economic pressure in the health care system, the rapid changes in medicine, the possibilities of digitalization and the growing interdependence between research and clinic, as well as ongoing social developments.

This CAS provides key concepts and instruments for the management and governance of medical organizations. Economic and medical thinking are mutually interrogated and used, as their differences as well as their interplay are of essential significance for the future of health care organisations.

The certificate course is designed for doctors who hold leadership positions as well as executives of other professional groups who work in hospitals, outpatient care facilities, and other healthcare organisations and want to develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes that are required for successfully shaping health care organisations today.
