Interuniversity Public Health Education (MPH, DAS, CAS)
The universities of Basel, Bern and Zürich offer a joint education programme covering a range of public health topics. Students can choose between a Master’s of Public Health (MPH), a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Public Health (DAS) or a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Public Health (CAS).
The modules focus on competencies that are essential for future public health practitioners. The goal is to provide healthcare workers with common perspectives as well as a defined set of skills and abilities. Students gain experience in conceptual thinking and in the problem-oriented application of methodological tools to epidemiology, statistics, health promotion, prevention, health policy, health management and health economics.
The courses are designed for academics working in settings such as health services, federal departments, non-profit organisations, counselling services, and research institutions. A large proportion of the programme’s graduates hold key positions in the Swiss healthcare system.
The course lecturers are well-known experts in their fields with many years of experience in the working world. The transfer from theory to practice in the student’s daily work is facilitated by the focus on the development of competencies. The programme is kept up-to-date through the regular introduction of new modules with topical content.
