The Bern Lectures in Health Science

Comparative effectiveness and personalized medicine research using real-world data

Thursday, 2023/06/15, 16:00

Thomas Debray

Randomized clinical trials have long been the gold standard for comparative effectiveness research. However, there is growing demand to consider evidence from “real-world data” (RWD) in clinical decision-making. These data are often available from observational cohort studies, administrative databases, and patient registries, and may offer additional insights into the comparative effectiveness and safety of treatments. Unfortunately, leveraging non-randomized data poses significant operational and methodological challenges.
