Verhältnisorientierte Bewegungsförderung und individuelle Bewegungsberatung im Seniorenwohnheim (BaSAlt)

BaSAlt

There are many reasons why older people do not get enough exercise (health problems, pain, lack of time, lack of opportunities). Moving into a retirement home is often accompanied by a decline in physical activity. Promoting physical activity is particularly cost-effective for older people and is becoming increasingly important in view of demographic change.

Our goal was to work with all stakeholders to develop strategies for promoting physical activity in retirement homes. We conducted a survey in 8 facilities on objective/subjective activity, geriatric functional analysis, health and motivation status, and ‘physical activity friendliness’ of the environment. Based on this residents, staff, relatives and external service providers.

Older people have been underserved in terms of exercise promotion, even though significant health benefits are possible (including fewer chronic conditions).

We showed that success depends heavily on the environment in addition to individual factors; a multi-perspective approach increases effectiveness. Additionally, with this we suggest measures to maintain health, prolong independence and reduce the need for care – aspects that are highly relevant to society.
