Health equity seeks to address the economic, social, and institutional factors and structures that lead to health disparities. To understand how these structures operate and to successfully remove or navigate them it is critical to incorporate the perspective of individuals and communities that are directly affected by these health inequities.
Community engagement is a core pillar of public health, yet, researchers, policymakers, health practitioners, and community members frequently face challenges to effective community engagement. This presentation will explore the important role and significance of community engagement in promoting health equity across research, health initiatives, and healthcare systems. We will cover successful case studies to demonstrate the barriers and strategies to effective community engagement.
