David Schwappach is scientific director of the Swiss Patient Safety Foundation since 2008 and professor for Patient Safety at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern. David obtained a PhD in public health in 2001 and received the venia legendi for public health in 2006. His research interests reside in acute care patient safety, including patient safety in clinical cancer care, systems design, and implementation of safety measures into clinical practice. David Schwappach is engaged in teaching patient safety to various audiences, including medical and nursing students and clinicians from many disciplines and professions. He serves as a referee for a variety of international journals and institutions and is member of several Patient Safety Boards.
