PhD Thesis: «Pulmonary dysfunction after childhood cancer: diagnosing early disease to improve long-term health», Supervisor: Claudia Kühni
After finishing medical school and gaining my first clinical experience, my interest in pediatrics and evidence-based approaches to improving patient care deepened, ultimately leading me to pursue a PhD. My research focuses on the pulmonary health of childhood cancer survivors, particularly in the early years after treatment while they are still of pediatric age. Although pulmonary late effects are a significant long-term burden, we lack data on whether early adverse outcomes emerge in this group. Through my clinically based cohort study, the Pulmo Study, I assess lung health using both objective lung function tests and self-reported outcomes. By identifying at-risk groups and determining the most effective follow-up strategies, my goal is to contribute to better long-term care and ensure that survivors receive the monitoring they need.
