SPHN-SPAC is a demonstrator project supported by the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN). It is led by Claudia Kühni and involves the three children’s hospitals in Bern, Zurich, and Lucerne.
For large clinical cohort studies such as the Swiss Paediatric Airway Cohort (SPAC), the manual collection and entry of clinical data are increasingly time-consuming, costly and difficult to sustain as the study grows. The SPHN-SPAC project aims to enable the reuse and linkage of routine healthcare data from hospitals with SPAC, by using the framework developed by SPHN.
Specifically, the project explores procedures that enable the automated extraction of clinical data for SPAC participants from the three participating hospitals and evaluates the quality and completeness of the data obtained. Using repeatedly collected clinical data, such as lung function test results, we will study respiratory health trajectories of SPAC participants over time. Finally, we will compare routinely collected clinical data from SPAC participants with data from non-participating children seen in the same clinics to assess whether SPAC participants are representative of the broader population of children receiving respiratory care.
