CLOSER

CLOSER (Closing the LOop: attribution of complex climate disaStERs to climatic and to policy changes) has been granted in the 2025 call of Horizon Europe Research and innovation action and is led by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The overall aim of the interdisciplinary project is to develop an intergrated science of event attribution, forecast and impact, to enable effective policymaking towards preventing imminent harm and reducing risk in the next decades.

As one of over 20 international collaboration partners, the CEPH team will contribute by providing expertise in health impact attribution. The CLOSER project will integrate climate science, risk assessment, and social sciences to better attribute and forecast extreme weather events and their impacts. It will also develop datasets, analytical tools, and decision-making frameworks to help policymakers and communities manage climate risks more effectively. The work starts in September 2026.
