Switzerland is highly affected by climate change, experiencing warming at about twice the global average rate. This has led to rapid increases in climate extremes such as heatwaves, droughts, heavy rainfall, and compound events. NCCR CLIM+ will address emerging research questions on societal transformation in the context of climate change mitigation and societal resilience.
The Climate Epidemiology and Public Health research group will contribute by providing the human health and climate dimension. In particular, the team will lead the research on the impact of weather extremes on human health in Switzerland. The studies will align with specific storylines attached to extreme events such as devastating heatwaves or floods that could potentially lead to a substantial health impact (i.e., hospitalizations, accidents) and the collapse of the health care system.
