ISPM hosts symposium to commemorate 50 years featuring international public health experts

13.09.2021 – The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern commemorates 50 Years with a symposium. The symposium features past and the present ISPM Directors, as well as internationally recognized public health experts who will discuss ISPM’s history and public health yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Since 1971, the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern has provided top-notch undergraduate and post-graduate education, carried out the highest quality interdisciplinary research, and provided national and international contributions to the health and wellbeing of people locally and globally.

To commemorate ISPM’s 50-year anniversary, on October 26, 2021, from 2 pm-5 pm, ISPM will host an onsite, in-person symposium at Langhans Hörsaal. The symposium will also be  broadcast online via Zoom. The commemorative symposium is open to the public. To attend, registration is required for onsite and online attendance. Please note that to attend in-person, a valid COVID vaccination certificate is mandatory.

Symposium attendees will hear from public health experts, such past and present ISPM directors, Theodor Abelin, Matthias Egger, and Oscar Franco. Featured speakers also include Claudio Bassetti, the Dean of the Medical Faculty at the University of Bern; Thomas Zeltner, the founder and first Chairman of the WHO Foundation; and Michelle Williams, the Dean of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Speakers will talk about and reflect upon ISPM’s history, as well as the history and future of public health in Switzerland and worldwide. For more information, please see the symposium schedule.
