Hicham Achebak has been awarded one of the SNSF Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowship to develop his research project TEMPO at ISPM. Hicham’s research is concerned with population health and its determinants, with special focus on environmental risk factors such as climate and air pollution. The project TEMPO will assess the spatiotemporal variation in the risk and burden of adverse birth outcomes associated with ambient temperatures, and its main environmental, demographic and socioeconomic in Europe, using a multi-scale spatial analysis approach. By the end of the project, local and regional administrations in several European countries, including Switzerland, will have easy access to data and climate risk profiles through an interactive mapping tool, the “Temperature and Pregnancy Vulnerability Atlas”, to better prepare for climate change related shocks and disruptions. Thus, TEMPO will greatly contribute to the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and the Swiss National Adaptation Strategy by addressing knowledge gaps and providing customised data and tools that help decision makers to take informed decisions at all levels of governance.
The SPF is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and aims at supporting excellent early-career researchers who wish to conduct research and training in Switzerland.
