Yin Ting Lam received the 2nd prize for the Best Oral presentation on Paediatric Pneumonology Free Communications

27.06.2023 – Yin Ting Lam received the 2nd prize for the Best Oral presentation on Paediatric Pneumonology Free Communications at the 2023 joint annual meeting of the Swiss Societies of Pulmonology and Cardiology in Basel.

The Swiss Society of Paediatric Pulmonology awarded the best two oral scientific presentations at the 2023 joint annual meeting of the Swiss Societies of Pulmonology and Cardiology in Basel. For the second year in a row, Yin Ting Lam received a prize, for her talk on “Association between upper and lower respiratory disease in primary ciliary dyskinesia”. Yin Ting Lam presented results from 457 patients in EPIC-PCD, a large prospective, multi-centre international study on upper airways disease among people with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). She showed that daily nasal symptoms were associated with sputum production, while upper airway symptoms indicative of chronic rhinosinusitis were associated with shortness of breath. The study did not find any correlation between reported upper airway and ear symptoms and lung function measured by spirometry. The presentation underlined that upper and lower airway disease should be considered and managed together in patients with PCD and that spirometry is not sensitive enough for these patients.
