The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern provides undergraduate and postgraduate education and carries out interdisciplinary research in the fields of social and behavioural health, clinical epidemiology and biostatistics, and international and environmental health. Eminent speakers from Switzerland and abroad give presentations at monthly lectures where researchers from other institutes and members of the public are welcome to attend.

Award
Two of our researchers at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) and Berner Institut für Hausarztmedizin (BIHAM)— Georgia Salanti and Orestis Efthimiou — have been recognised by Clarivate Analytics as «Highly Cited Researchers», an honour awarded to scientists whose publications rank among the top 1 % by citations in their field. ISPM/BIHAM host two out of a total of seven highly cited researchers at the University of Bern.

At the DGSMP Annual Conference 2025 in Berlin, hosted by Charite and Berlin School of Public Health, Annika Frahsa delivered a keynote on «Rethinking Participation», presenting new methodological perspectives and a conceptual model for strengthening participatory health research. Her related scoping review has just been published in Social Science & Medicine.
