The Swiss Society of Paediatric Pulmonology awarded the best two oral scientific presentations at the 2024 joint annual meeting of the Swiss Societies of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery in Baden. Leonie Schreck received the 1st prize for her talk on “Infertility and pregnancy outcomes among adults with primary ciliary dyskinesia”. She presented results from 265 adults in the Living with PCD study, a large international participatory cohort which includes 759 people with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) from 49 countries. She showed that women and men with PCD frequently experienced infertility but that fertility treatments were helpful for many of them. The study was also the first to show that women with PCD have an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy compared to healthy women.

Beatriz Guerra Buezo received the 2nd prize for her talk “Study protocol. Exploring paediatric asthma diagnosis practices in Switzerland: A national physicians survey.” She presented the protocol and preliminary results of a nationwide survey that aims to understand how school-age children are diagnosed with asthma in Switzerland. The survey is available in 3 languages (German, French and Italian) and was sent to all Swiss Paediatricians on the 13th of May. During the conference, she presented the results of 633 paediatricians who already completed the survey highlighting large differences in availability of different diagnostic tests between specialists (paediatric pulmonologists and allergologists) and non-specialists (general paediatricians and other subspecialties), and between physicians working at hospitals and those working at practices.
